Zorn Asphalt LWD Tester Completes FHWA Intelligent Compaction Project in Idaho

KSE Testing Equipment successfully completed the testing program for the FHWA Intelligent Compaction Project on US 95 near Athol Idaho. The Zorn Light Weight Deflectometer for Asphalt was used on Hot Mix Asphalt to determine deflection and modulus of the newly placed Base Material. The results were very consistent between the 60 test locations. The Zorn LWD for Asphalt supports the use of stiffness in determining compaction of the material similar to the measurements from the Intelligent Compaction rollers used on the projects.

The Zorn device is the first of its kind capable of testing HMA material immediately after the last breakdown roller pass. In addition, the same device can be used to evaluate existing asphalt pavements to determine remaining service life by exchanging die sizes.

Come see the Zorn LWD for Asphalt at the remaining FHWA IC Demonstration Projects this summer in Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina & Washington state. See the link below for more information. Or, for more information email us at sales@kesslerdcp.com or call us at 571-291-2284.
